Krypton House

About Krypton House

Krypton (from Ancient Greek: "the hidden one") is a chemical element with the symbol Kr and atomic number 36. It is a colourless, odourless, tasteless noble gas that occurs in trace amounts in the atmosphere and is often used with other rare gases in fluorescent lamps. With rare exceptions, krypton is chemically inert.

Krypton, like the other noble gases, is used in lighting and photography. Krypton light has many spectral lines, and krypton plasma is useful in bright, high-powered gas lasers (krypton ion and excimer lasers), each of which resonates and amplifies a single spectral line. Krypton fluoride also makes a useful laser medium.

Krypton’s house colour is Green.

In Krypton House we are proud that our students demonstrate the ASPIRE values for learning and life that permeate throughout our Academy and our Trust. Krypton students seek to emulate our House Hero, Major Francis Edward Foley, who is a role model for many of these values.

House Hero - Major Francis Edward Foley (1884 - 1958)

Major Francis Edward Foley CMG was a British Secret Intelligence Service officer.

As a passport control officer for the British embassy in Berlin, Foley "bent the rules" and helped thousands of Jewish families escape from Nazi Germany after Kristallnacht and before the outbreak of the Second World War. He is officially recognised as a British Hero of the Holocaust.
