Students and staff at Kingswinford Academy, part of the Windsor Academy Trust family of schools, are celebrating after making a record breaking donation to the Black Country Food Bank following a fruitful Harvest Festival collection.
Kind-hearted students, parents and staff at the school donated an incredible 861kg of food and 260kg of toiletries, making it the school’s biggest ever collection and one of the largest donations the Black Country Food Bank has ever received.
In total, 1722 meals were donated, which could provide a family of four up to three meals a day for nearly six months, as well as 260 toiletry packs for those in need.
Ian Moreton, Headteacher at Kingswinford Academy, commented: “I am incredibly proud of the way our school community has come together to support the Black Country Food Bank. We know the current cost of living crisis is putting significant pressure on so many people in our local community, with families having to make some extremely difficult decisions.
“In response, our students and staff were really keen to do all that they could for this year’s Harvest collection, resulting in our biggest ever donation - over a tonne of produce, which is just fantastic. I’m very grateful to everyone for their generosity and I hope this goes some way to help support families and individuals in need at this time. Thanks to Mr Dimmock and our student civic leaders for coordinating the efforts.”
The Black Country Food Bank added: “Thank you so much for your Harvest collection of food and toiletries for families and individuals in your local community. We will use all that you have donated to make emergency food parcels for people in crisis. This is absolutely wonderful and we are so thankful you have supported us in this amazing way.”
